Noon to One
RSVP

The Pontotoc Farmers Market and the Pontotoc Community Garden are hosting a Community Health Forum on February 29 from noon to one at the Pontotoc County Chamber Main Street, located at 109 North Main Street.

This forum will help establish a Healthy Food Prescription Program funded by the MS Department of Health.  Organizations who will be involved in this process include healthcare, social services, civic and professional organizations, community development groups, educators, advocacy groups and community leaders.  Your input is needed!

Our Proposal:

Local health clinics, medical providers, the Pontotoc Food Pantry, Pontotoc Farmers Market and possibly others will be provided vouchers, called “Healthy Food Prescriptions,” that they distribute to those who suffer from diet-related diseases including, but certainly not limited to prediabetes, diabetes, hypertension, high BMI, depression and overall ill health.  The consumer can take the Healthy Food Rx to the Pontotoc Farmers Market and use it to purchase local fruits, veggies and healthy food staples.  Some funds will remain available to purchase produce for delivery as needed.

This Healthy Food Rx Program offers a promising solution to the compounding issues of food insecurity, rising healthcare costs and ill health.  The longterm goal is to dramatically and meaningfully alter conditions for and social determinants of improved healthand health equityin our community.

We hope you will be interested in participating! Please RSVP below.  Questions?  Text to 662-760-6703 or email [email protected].  Thanks so much for your time and consideration!

Thank you!
